SKINS K-Proprium Compression Tights

SKINS K-Proprium Compression Tights Review

SKINS asked Run Mummy Run to review their new SKINS K-Proprium compression tights.  These all new compression running tights will hit the shops in February and are designed to fight fatigue, reduce the risk of injury and improve performance.

Run Mummy Run member Shelley Keefe reviewed SKINS K-Proprium compression tights for us.  Shelley is a Mum of two young boys, who started running around a year ago in an attempt to get fit.  She has gained a passion for it and is currently training for her first half marathon in March this year…

If you’ve ever owned a pair of SKINS compression tights you’re probably already a convert, but if like me, you usually go for funky designs and don’t think much about the technical stuff then read on…

The first challenge was actually getting them on! With their Dynamic Gradient Compression – which improves performance by getting more oxygen to your active muscles and removing waste products from the body faster – they are snug! SKINS recommend rolling them up and putting them on like a pair of tights, which I did find was the easiest way to get them on. Once on they felt incredibly supportive, they held in all my wobbly bits and made me feel like a professional athlete in an instant!

These tights offer the highest level of compression in the SKINS range and feature Proprioceptive Power Bands to fight fatigue, reduce the risk of injury and improve performance. In basic terms, these bands have a similar effect to athletic strapping.

One thing I would say is make sure you get the sizing right. There is a detailed size chart on the SKINS website. It’s important that the Proprioceptive Power Bands, which are embedded in the tights, sit in the right positions. They are strategically placed to wrap the lower body muscle groups that we use most for running, jumping and rotating. The bands support the muscles to reduce fatigue and allow you to run for longer periods at a higher intensity. They also have an ergonomically designed waistband which helps with lower back and core stability. There’s no drawstring but with the ergonomic fit there’s really no need for one.

There is a lot of technology squeezed into these tights and I have to say I was really impressed.  I’m coming back from an injury myself and I found they gave me that extra bit of confidence to get back out and on the road to recovery.

After I took them off I did notice slight marks where the bands had been, but this wasn’t at all painful, it just reassured me they had done their job. Although they are very snug fitting running tights, I didn’t feel restricted whilst running in them. I ran a variety of distances and paces and found them very comfortable, just like a second skin.

All in all, the K-Propriums are a great piece of kit and I’d really recommend them. They are very supportive and comfortable. For me they would be that one staple piece of kit really worth investing in.

What SKINS say about their K-PROPRIUM compression tights…

SKINS has pushed the boundaries of performance sportswear to the next level with their all-new K-PROPRIUM men’s and women’s long tights.

SKINS’ K-PROPRIUM combine the world’s best Dynamic Gradient Compression with strategically placed Proprioceptive Power Bands (PPB’s) to fight fatigue, reduce the risk of injury and improve performance by enhancing proprioception.

Never heard of proprioception? Here’s a quick run-down. Proprioception is the unconscious perception of motion and spatial awareness. It’s the body’s ability to sense movement in the joints, so you’re aware of where your limbs are without having to look. It’s important for everyday activities like standing and walking, but it’s even more important during physical activity where dynamic movements and co-ordination are vital for optimal performance.

A precision fit based on 3D body scanning data maximises the compression benefits, while 360-degree reflective logos ensure visibility during low light activity. Constructed using a combination of 5 technical fabrics with 50+ UV sun protection, moisture management wicking and ADAPTIVE Technology to optimise body temperature, SKINS K-PROPRIUM long tights are a practical, durable and comfortable piece of equipment for men and women that want to take their performance to the next level.
