Take steps towards a healthier, more active lifestyle with Flora

In the lead-up to the Virgin Money London Marathon on 3rd October, margarine brand Flora is encouraging the nation to take steps towards a healthier, more active lifestyle! Whether you’re taking the first step or the ten thousandth, Flora and their team of #GetTownsActive Activists want to inspire people to get out there and get moving.

TV presenter, Mark Wright, will take on his first-ever marathon as part of Team Flora, supported by three-time London Marathon winner, Paula Radcliffe, who has put him through his paces with expert coaching and advice.

Mark Wright commented: “I’m so pumped to be running the Virgin Money London Marathon with Flora for its Get Towns Active campaign. Fitness and nutrition is a massive part of my life and this was a big chance to share my experience, and the benefits of getting fit and eating right, with people across the UK and Ireland.”

Healthy energy balls recipe

Flora has created lots of healthy recipes to help support a more active lifestyle and fuel both your mind and your body with great tasting, high energy food. Why not try this delicious energy balls recipe? A great food for both fuelling ahead of a training session or for when you need a quick snack afterwards.

 

 INGREDIENTS (6 servings)

  • 100g oats
  • 50g dried dates
  • 50g ground almonds
  • 20g Flora 100% Natural Ingredients
  • 25g dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • zest and juice of 1 orange

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Soak the dates in hot water for 10 minutes to soften them slightly.
  2. While they are softening add the oats, ground almonds, half of the cocoa powder and orange zest to a food processor.
  3. Over a very low heat, heat the Flora with the orange juice until it has melted. Add to the food processor.
  4. If the dates are not pitted, remove the stones from them and add the dates to the food processor too. Blitz everything together.
  5. Move to a small bowl and stir through the chocolate chips.
  6. Shape into 6 balls and roll in the remaining cocoa powder to coat.
  7. Leave to cool in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
